RECEPTIONIST/TELEPHONE OPERATORNPSC 1 (1 POST)
Reporting to the Commission Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, the
Receptionist/telephone operator through Director, Corporate Support Services will manage the switchboard and provide efficient telephone services to the Commission.

Specific responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

  • To operate at the Switch Board and ensure efficient telephone service;
  • To maintain proper records of all the telephone calls going out through the Switch Board;
  • To ensure the Switch Board is regularly serviced as required in consultation with the Administration Officer;
  • To handle incoming calls and re-direct them appropriately;
  • To take telephone messages on behalf of the employees
  • To promote the Commission’s image by politely assisting and routing callers to the right offices;
  • To ensure the telephone exchange is attended to at all times;
  • To provide monthly reports of the status of the telephone exchange to the Administration Officer;
  • To control and prevent misuse of the telephone services
  • Any other duties that may be assigned by the Commission Secretary/Chief Executive Officer.

Qualifications, Experience and other Requirements:

  • KCSE C/DIV III;
  • Telephone Operators Certificate;
  • At least three years working experience in a busy telephone Exchange;
  • Excellent Communication, good interpersonal skills and computer literacy
  • Be a Kenyan Citizen.

  • Applicants should attach a copy of National Identity Card or Passport, testimonials, or any other evidence of proven relevant expertise herein being sought;
  • In addition to the qualifications set out in the Constitution and the Enabling Statutes, applicants must further furnish clearance certificates from:
    1. Director, Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC);
    2. Commissioner General, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA);
    3. Chief Executive Officer, Higher Education Loans Board (HELB);
    4. Professional bodies (where applicable) to which the applicant belongs such as LSK, ICPS (K), ICPAK, AAK, IEK, etc.;
    5. Certificate of Good Conduct.

NB: These criteria are applicable only to the Senior Positions NPSC 5 to NPSC 8.

Disqualification Criteria
No person shall be qualified for appointment in any of the above posts if the person:

  • Has previously been convicted of any criminal offence;
  • Has violated the Constitution;
  • Is an undischarged bankrupt;
  • Has been adversely mentioned in any report by a Commission of Inquiry or any Parliamentary Committee;
  • Canvasses directly, indirectly, by proxy, by emissary, by ethnic or clan whipping, by pressure groups, by other associations or in any other way;
  • Knowingly, willingly and blatantly lies, misrepresents, cheats and fails to disclose material facts.

Security Report
In addition, the National Intelligence Service (NIS) may be requested by the Commission to provide a report on all shortlisted applicants.
