Job Purpose
To provide programmatic and technical support in the formulation and evaluation of the Addressing Gender Based Violence in Kibera in a professional, efficient and effective manner. About the Addressing Gender Based Violence in Kibera project. This project aims to increase access to justice and integrated support to the survivors of violence in Kibera, an informal settlement in Nairobi. The project draws service providers together into a holistic support structure under a ‘one stop’ platform, while increasing awareness on Gender Based Violence (GBV). The project institutionalises a culture of respect for women’s human rights and mitigates and responds to cases through community sensitisation and the provision of legal aid.

Key roles and responsibilities

  • Provide support to the Programme Officer who oversees this programme;
  • Assisting with conceptualization, design, and implementation of the community empowerment program;
  • Liaising with relevant Legal Assistant , Legal Officer and community outreach workers ,to ensure co-ordination of clients documentation or other relevant intersecting work;
  • Fund raising, report writing and general co-ordination of the program;
  • Assisting in organizing and coordinating community activities, including forums, dialogue meetings, school outreach programs at the community level in consultations with the community educators/ paralegals;
  • Administration and documentation work pertaining to activities, planning, and project implementation;
  • Co-ordination of research under the community empowerment program;
  • Ensuring timely and regular reporting on the project implementation to the immediate supervisor and the development partners and other stakeholders;
  • Preparing and compiling monthly draft progress report on the projects being implemented, contributing to preparation of the final project reports;
  • Monitoring and evaluating plans and projects to ensure effective implementation of the projects;
  • Any other duty to propel the organization;

Academic qualifications, experiences, skills and personal attributes

  • Must have a Bachelors degree in Social Science or closely related field, other qualification in sexual and gender based violence program management would be desirable.
  • Have at least two years of relevant working experiences in a non-governmental organization dealing with women’s rights issues, and in particular sexual and gender based violence eradication and support structures for survivors
  • Technical training in project management and proposal development will be an added advantage.
  • Strong writing/editing skills and language capability in both Kiswahili and English.
  • Strong computer (word processing) literacy and able to use Microsoft Office suite of programs.
  • Energetic, creative and eager to learn.
  • Excellent oral, presentation and written communication skills.
  • Personal commitment to work as reliable, honest and trustworthy team member.
  • Must be able to work comfortably and effectively with people of different national and cultural backgrounds and to establish and maintain constructive working relations in multi –cultural environment.
