A vacancy has arisen at the British High Commission for a Locally Engaged Transport Manager. The job is graded at LE II for which the current salary scale starts at Ksh.185,6267- per month before deduction of tax. Where the jobholder is not liable to Kenyan tax the scale will be abated under MM Treasury rules and starts at Ksh. 136,067/- per month to take account of the tax they would have paid.

The Role
While previous experience in transport or logistics management would be helpful, it is not essential. The BHC is looking for an individual with proven strong managerial, organisational, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills both written and verbal – to inspire manage and motivate an office team – including a Deputy Transport Manager, Transport Planner, Receptionist, two Mechanics and a team of drivers. A background in managing a high performing customer service oriented team, meeting challenging demands, targets and dealing with demanding individuals – would be invaluable for this position.

Key responsibilities:
The job of Transport Manager involves the management of the High Commission transport section which includes a fleet of over 40 official vehicles, a maintenance workshop and leadership of a team of 24 drivers and mechanics. This is a challenging job with about 750 vehicle bookings a month (but with a requirement for 1000 plus), significant financial, decision-making, leadership, and line management responsibilities. The job-holder will need the flexibility and customer focus to balance competing demands from a diverse range of customers within the High Commission. Out of hours work is sometimes called for.
